A Happy Little Sales Haul!

So Christmas is over for another year and we all know what that means – Boxing Day Sales! My wonderful friend Iz and I braved the crowds in Brisbane City and we were both quite happy with the results.

First of all we went to Kikki K and I picked up one of the adorable weekly diaries in the small size and a cute little pen.  Unfortunately they had sold out of the sale price gift packs with the same diary so I had to buy the items seperately, but as I’ve been wanting the diary for a while I didn’t mind too much.

Next was to Lush – one of my favourite stores in the world and I definitely got my money’s worth here.
I had to get a big bottle of the Rose Jam shower gel as I use this as shampoo and body wash so it gets used up quickly, it was also 50% off so how could I resist?

Then I saw that all the Christmas gift packs were 50% off so I had a bit of a splurge. Firstly I got the Out of This World pack which contains a piece of Rockstar soap and a Space Girl Bath Ballistic.

The other gift pack I bought was the Festive Goodies which has three of the limited edition Christmas bath products in – the Father Christmas Bath Ballistic, The Christmas Penguin Bubble Bar and the Bombardino Bath Ballistic.

From left – Father Christmas Ballistic, Christmas Penguin and Bombardino.

Finally we went to Priceline and I got a new Real Techniques Powder Brush.  This wasn’t on sale but as I have a lot of the other Real Techniques brushes this adds to my collection and I’ve needed a big fluffy bronzer brush for a while. Also these are just great brushes, the lovely lady who makes them is one half of Pixiwoo (a YouTube makeup tutorial channel) and I could not recommend them more.

We rounded the day out with Froyo (which I forgot to take a picture of because I was too busy eating it) and then it was time to go home so I could admire my new toys and load up my new iPhone 5S – which has great picture quality.

My Summer Beauty Essentials!

I promised to be a beauty blogger and now that you’ve all got to know me a bit here it is – my first beauty related post! To start off these are my Summer beauty essentials and most of them are lip products because I’m a lip product junkie but there’s an eyeliner and a couple of bronzers thrown in for good measure.  Hope you enjoy!

From top to bottom – Illamasqua skin base, Bourjois Bronzer, Revlon Lip Butter in Sorbet, MAC Creme Cup, Revlon Just Bitten Kissable in CHerish, Bourjois Color Boost in Peach on the Beach, Rimmel Kohl in Stormy Grey

1. Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal Eye Liner Pencil in 064 Stormy Grey

This eyeliner is great for Summer because it’s not quite as full on as a black liner and it looks better smudged.  I wear it almost everyday on bare eyelids, I just do a thick line on my upper lash line and smudge it out with an eyeshadow brush.  It gives a really nice effect as you can see there is something on the eye but it’s not so obvious if you’re just going to the beach or out with friends.

2. Bourjois Color Boost Glossy Finish Lipstick in 04 Peach on the Beach

I love the crayon style lip colours which have been so popular this year, they’re easy to use and most have great colour payoff.  This one by Bourjois is expensive to buy in Australia (see my rant on makeup prices here) but it’s worth it for the amazing consistency (think lipgloss shine but applies like a lip balm) and the great colour.  It’s perfect to wear with a bronzed face and just mascara and looks really shiny with an SPF of 15 all while not drying your lips out!

3. Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in 015 Cherish

Another crayon style but by Revlon this time, in the most pretty pink colour.  It’s like a muted Barbie pink and I find the best way to apply it is to just smooth over your bottom lip, press your lips together and then use a finger to spread it evenly.  Applying it this way lets your natural lip colour show but enhances it just the right amount. Perfect with the grey eyeliner and a pink blush.

4. Revlon Colourburst Lip Butter in 053 Sorbet

Another Revlon product but this time in the infamous lip butter form that divided beauty bloggers in 2013.  I think Revlon does these “lip butters” – to me glorified, higher pigmented lip balms – the best as they were the originals (Maybelline followed with Colour Whispers and then it seemed that every brand had one) and they do actually moisturise my lips.  The colour of this one is an amazing flamingo hot pink which is much easier to wear than a lipstick and lasts for ages.  Looks great with lots of mascara and a touch of bronzer.

5. MAC Cremecup

This belongs in every favourites category, it is my perfect “your lips but better” nude which can be worn with any other makeup look or even on a lazy day by itself.  Not much else to say about this but if you’ve got fair skin go to a MAC counter and try it out!

6. Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation with Gold Shimmer in AU

The girl at the Illamasqua counter recommended this to me because I wanted a darker foundation for the Summer months. She said to mix a little with foundation and apply as normal to deepen the shade and eliminate the need to buy a new foundation for each season.  When applied like that it gives a great glow like Chanel Soleil de Tan but for a much cheaper price.  But, I’ve been using it as a bronzer/contour hybrid – squeeze a line out onto your finger, press under cheekbones and onto temples (one inch long line does your whole face) then I blend it out with my Real Techniques buffing brush (I blend up from my cheeks and down from my temples) and apply my foundation over the top as normal.

7. Bourjois Delice de Soleil Bronzing Powder in 12 Fair/Medium Skin

A beautiful barely there bronzer to make it look like you’ve been in the sun.  Such a lovely shade for fair skin, I just sweep it over my cheeks, then use the excess around my forehead, on my chin and down my nose (only on days I haven’t used the Illamasqua bronzer though, otherwise it’s bronze overload).

Hope you’ve enjoyed this very long post as much as I enjoyed writing it! And sorry about the dodgy pictures (hopefully my photography skills will improve as I blog more).

  • Beach! Pretty self explanatory
  • Candles – with Christmas and spending a bit more time at home I’ve been using my candles up a lot quicker
  • Daisy by Marc Jacobs – this perfume smells better in the heat (in my opinion) and goes perfect with a white summer dress and sunglasses
  • Evenings – the sun stays up longer and when twilight comes and takes away the worst heat, it’s my favourite part of the day
  • Fruit – all of my favourite fruits are in season – cherries, watermelon, grapes, berries YUM!
  • GOMA – this is the Brisbane Gallery of Modern Art and it’s one of the best places to go to get out of the heat and see amazing art installations
  • Holidays – sooo much free time now that uni has finished in which I can do everything or nothing
  • Ice cream – my mum has an ice cream maker so I’ve resolved to make everything into frozen treats
  • Jacksgap – the Rickshaw Run series is blowing my mind and it doesn’t hurt that they are both so attractive (and all their friends) www.jacksgap.com
  • Kangaroos – we live near bushland and the kangaroos and wallabies have gotten more active as it’s started to warm up, I love finding them in the garden
  • Learning to drive – I’ve had my learners license for 15 months and have only done 12 hours towards my hundred, I want to get those hours up!
  • Mosquito net – I’ve had to put up my billowy white mozzie net around my bed, not really for the bugs just because I love the way it looks
  • Nocturnal – with nothing to get up early for my bedtime is slowly getting later and later
  • Organisation – it’s the time of year to redo my room and tidy everything up, I get a strange amount of satisfaction from having everything neat
  • Presents – Christmas present buying is one of my favourite parts of the season
  • Queensland – the “sunshine state” sure lives up to its reputation this time of year and I love it!
  • Relaxing – one of the things I do best – out in the sun with my iPad
  • Snakes – I live near bush land so with the hot weather comes the creepy crawlies, I know they’re out there I just hope I don’t see one
  • Topshop – the first topshop in Brisbane opened a couple of weeks ago, I’ve been twice already and plan on spending quite a bit of money there (I’ll have to do a haul)
  • Uni – or lack thereof, not having to htink for 3 months is one of the best parts of summer!
  • Vlogmas – all the daily blogs of British Youtubers make me want to wear several bright festive jumpers, but of course it’s too hot in Brisbane
  • Work – while I’ve got time off I’m trying to work a bit more so I can make some extra pocket money
  • Xmas – I know I kinda cheated with this one, but you can’t have summer holidays without Xmas!
  • YouTube – I have to get my fix everyday, I’m currently religiously watching the Sorted food boys (Mike, call me) and the many many daily uploads at this time of year make me so happy
  • Zzzzz – sleeping late and napping in the afternoons

Hope you enjoyed this A-Z and sorry it’s been a while between posts but work has been busy busy in the past week or so!  I hope everyone had a very merry Christmas and happy holidays to you all!

Buying makeup in Australia

This is such a first world problems post but it is something that I find really interesting and quite annoying. In Australia our cosmetics and makeup prices are almost double what Americans pay and at least a third more than in the UK. For exactly the same products. For example Revlon colour stay lipsticks cost Aussie girls just under $23 (from either chemist store priceline or department store myer) whereas in Boots in the UK the price is $15.10 and the same lipstick only costs $7.89. Now I know that Revlon is not made in Australia and therefore it will be more expensive to stock in Australian stores due to shipping but it is an international brand so shouldn’t the prices be more similar? Another international brand MAC charges $36 a lipstick in Australia – $10 more than in the UK and a whole $20 more than in the US – the thought of paying just $16 for MAC is astounding to me because mid to high price tags are what I’m used to. I’m starting to think this is why Aussie girls are so underrepresented in the beauty blog and YouTube beauty guru world – it’s too expensive to buy the products to review or haul or create makeup tutorials. I have 6 MAC lipsticks and that little bunch cost me $200, “makeup collection and storage” videos by US beauty gurus hurt my heart because they have access to so many amazing brands at a fraction of the price I have to pay.  Yes I could buy online but shipping brings the price up so I have to grovel to friends travelling overseas to buy me makeup and bring it home for me.  Illamasqua is leading the way with fair pricing across all its international stockists by standardising prices to ensure us poor girls in the Southern Hemisphere have access to high end brands at prices that aren’t exorbitant. So I’m calling to MAC and Revlon and Maybelline and all the other brands who alter their prices depending on what country they’re selling in to follow their lead and help us Aussie lasses buy their makeup without spending a whole weeks pay.
Sorry for the ranty post, but I think it’s something that has to change!
