Where do I begin? I’ve been exposed to the kind of left of centre way of life since I was little with my Pa practicing Feng Shui and Tai Chi, reading tea leaves and I’m almost sure painting was his way of meditating and my mum owning tarot cards, going to psychics and collecting crystals. As I’ve gotten older and especially into my 20s I’ve grown more and more interested and this kind of culminated in November last year with the purchase of Gabrielle Bernstein’s book “The Universe has your Back” and meditating with my rose quartz to help my job prospects (I got a call for an interview the same afternoon). Now before you go and click away hear me out, I know that these spiritual vibes can seem strange but they’re coming more and more into the spotlgiht with gratitude being a buzzword for 2018, crystals adorning necklaces and rings in almost every jewellery shop you enter and essential oils having their feature place in Mecca Cosmetica. Really, the movement is starting to take shape and if you search the “Witches of Instagram” or “Coven” Hashtags on social media you’ll see how widespread it is. I’m not saying I’m going to be doing spells and dancing naked under the Full Moon (yet) but it really can’t hurt to take some time to be grateful, write down intentions and use essential oils and crystals to solidify it all.
*Alternative title – “My Products With The Shabbiest And Dirtiest Packaging” but at least that shows I actually use them, this definitely isn’t one of those posts with pictures of immaculate products which you just know have lived in a drawer all their lives, so you’ll have to forgive the dirty, dingy products. I’ve taken an inventory of the products I either use everyday or reach for without hesitation when I’m doing my makeup and I think I’ve found a good mix of high end and “Drugstore” products that are sure to deliver that I will (and have) repurchased again and again.
Second post on the blog in a month, I think that’s a record for this year. I’ve been a terrible blogger lately, there’s just been a lot on and I haven’t really been in the headspace for it but I do know that I feel happy when I’m writing and photographing and creating and I love the sense of achievement I feel when I hit publish on a post. So this is me making an early New Years resolution to do more than 10 posts next year. This month Lush Cosmetics gave me a reason to blog again and I’m very grateful for that and the haul they so generously gifted of their amazing Christmas collection. So read on for my hot take on the products.
It’s been an emotionally and mentally difficult year. I won’t lie, applying for degree related jobs week in and week out and not securing any of them is tough. Right at this moment I’m awaiting a call about a job I interviewed for a two weeks ago and I have been in a heightened state of awareness and stress for the last 10 days. I’ve currently got a tension headache and I’ve just doused myself in Past-Tense and Peppermint oils from doTERRA, not for any spiritual awakening or because I think it will align my chakras but because they work better than Panadol.
I didn’t really think I’d be the type of person to get “cosmetic enhancement” but for the past 12 or so months I’ve been thinking about getting my lips done. I like my natural lips but they aren’t really that full, they’re just a bit meh, and I’ve always found I overline them to make them appear bigger. So last week (Halloween to be exact) I finally bit the bullet and booked in to get lip fillers.
